Introduction

There has never been a comprehensive documentary feature film on the phenomena of the Dominant/Submissive and BDSM lifestyles. This 'different' kind of loving has been around for a very long time and interest in it is currently growing very quickly due to the Internet.

The definitions of sadism and masochism are cloaked in mystery, fueled by misconceptions dating back to the exploits of the Marquis de Sade. Our societal desires to recognize sexual abuse in its various forms, and eliminate them from our society overshadow a lifestyle, which is just the opposite of sexual abuse.

Bondage, Discipline, Sadism and Masochism, as practiced in North America and Western Europe today are practiced within the concept of Safe, Sane and Consensual sexual activities.

Further, and beyond sexuality, some couples choose to practice BDSM in a more complete lifestyle known as D/s or Dominance and submission subject only to restrictions due to jobs, family and other responsibilities. Each and every D/s relationship is different and created by the individuals involved. In many cases, the growth of the lifestyle is due to the fact that many baby boom couples have split up upon becoming empty nesters, and the individuals have begun to experiment with alternative sexual practices and lifestyles.

Every major city in North America and Europe has BDSM nightclubs, societies and associations dedicated to supporting the lifestyle and its adherents. The Internet has a multiplicity of lifestyle sites offering explanations, chatrooms and personal ads for those in the lifestyle and those wishing to be.
